People ask, “What is it with you and The Chuck Wagon Gang?”

As much as the tempation exists to go there, no, “the Chuck Wagon Gang” is not colloquial for sexual orientation. It is the name of a 75 year old gospel vocal group that I happen to like. Now, I am not a religious man in the church-going sense but I’ve always liked the Church’s music, particularly music from the black church. Lately though, I started listening to white gospel music and have become enamored of that as well. While black gospel music is well, hallelujah stuff, white gospel music is, well hallelujah stuff with cats in blue suits and accoustic guitars. As I delve deeper into this true American folk music I wonder if there is any animosity between the two groups, racial or otherwise. I don’t know. This Chuck Wagon Gang is real folk music. The present day incarnation continues to emphasize the inter-locking harmonies with emphsis on the soprano and bass singers that has characterized the group down through the years. I’d love to promote some of their shows but I don’t know what size audience they draw, what kind of bread they are used to seeing and what kind of bread they’d like to make. None the less they’re music is so well crafted and performed people need to hear it and music like it. I’m done and I’m not going to church any time soon but I would go if these guys were there..

This is a place called Rocket Fizz in Camarillo, Ca. I took this picture “so long as I didn’t go hog wild” according to the lady at the cash register. If any of you make your way there tell them you heard about their place here..but you only saw one picture because Phil wasn’t supposed to “go hog wild.” …They got all kinda pop and shit…Fun place…

Show Log, Tuesday March 30, 2010

Bobbie Dooley began the festivities saying that the best way to combat bullying was to go along with the kids and not be marked as a “spaz” or a “douchebag.” It’s “the lingo of the kids” according to Bobbie. Integrate yourself, says Bobbie. If the kids make fun of you for being fat, go on a diet. What would you rather have? A living, pregant, popular daughter or a spaz swinging from a rope in the garage……Harry Shearer, mercifully, joined us in the second hour talking about his new album “Greed and Fear” and the bad old days at Saturday Night Live….Final hour, Jay Santos of the Citizens Auxiliary Police said the militia groups are all Mickey Mouse and what we should really be on guard against are the tight skirts and baggy pants worn by todays teens….”I guess you guys haven’t heard. We just got the news. Gonorrhea’s just hit Mach one. It’s gone super-bug.”
