Tonight the Super Bowl was previewed with Vernon Dozier, Doug Dannger and Steve Bosell. Dannger by the way introduced a new shorthand….instead of “Gay Man and Gay Journalist” it’s now simply “Doug Dannger, Gay.” It was Dave Oliva talking with General Shaw about a hoax mailing in New York of what turned out to be cornstarch, instead of anthrax… Dave said cornstarch looks a lot like dandruff…

Tonight the discussion centered a bit around Phil’s one man show coming up on Sunday night at the San Francisco Sketchfest. Margaret wondered about what song she should sing and discussed Justin Beiber’s troubles as well. That led to talk about the singer Jimmie Rogers and his fateful encounter with the LAPD in 1967 which left him with a fractured skull. So, she decided to sing one of his hits, “Honeycomb.” There was also a rather involved talk as well with Margaret and Bobbie Dooley about the place of parents in their kids careers, notably Jeremy Bieber, Justin Bieber’s dad. Herb Sewell came on the program and talked about an order of nuns that don’t want to have to pay for ACA-mandated contraceptive care. Said Herb, “The Nun is up to things you and I can only have nightmares about.”

Phil talked to the gang about yet another arrest made in the 1978 Lufthansa/Kennedy Airport robbery chronicled in the film ‘Goodfellas. Brad Rivkind, a New York native, discussed it with Phil and the crew, trying to get Bud to understand that the Castellammarese war isn’t a restaurant. Coming on board as well for a roundtable was Harvey Weirman, Dean Wheeler, Larry Grover and the brain-damaged Warren Benman to talk about Edward Snowden and where he’ll wind up eventually… The Mars rover Opportunity was the subject of questions from General Gaylen Shaw who felt more investigation was needed into the Martian canals. Is it possible still that there are Martian farms and what does Phil think about a hypothetical song called “Martian Farm.” (with apologies to Parchman Farm, the prison song)

Due to the severe weather conditions on the East Coast (nearly 14″ of snow), our DC studio was unavailable and we could not produce a live show. So we’ve dug up some more Comedy Gold for your pleasure! This show is from February 20th, 2001. On the videocast we have a repeat from last Friday. Pastor Renneck opened the show to discuss a new study that claims black people use seat belts less. The government wants to fund education programs in black churches. The pastor is against it because seat belts remind blacks of slavery. The second hour kicked off with Don the Suicide Case. He claims that Dale Earnhardt’s death was as big as the death of JFK, MLK, & John Lennon. RC called in to ask why everyone was hailing Earnhardt when we all know that Richard Petty was the greatest of all time. Margaret joined the show in the third hour to discuss the recent news about Jane Fonda. Jane’s confession to being anorexic/bulimic is a betrayal to the secret women have. It’s the power loss combo weight loss secret. Phil closed the show with a rant about “when is a good time to die?”

Hope you had a great MLK day! Phil wasn’t live on the radio, so we’ve got some Comedy Gold from January 24, 2001. Bobbie Dooley started off the show by discussing her recent Wintertacular Cruise. She was invited to sit at the Captain’s table. Sandy Boucher was too fat and would embarrass the girls, so she was asked to sit out. Bobbie and her friends have tried to help Sandy lose weight by calling her on the phone and oinking repeatedly at her. The second hour featured a rant about the escaped Texas convicts, screwing up your kids, and the voices used on the show. The third hour was closed by Art Griego, who was a Northwest Pilot fired for drinking on the job. Art thinks that all pilots take a pop before a flight, because it’s a very combat-like job. Very nerve-wracking. Art argued that pilots all puke before every flight.
