Don Berman from Channel 19 News tells Phil why it’s more important to tell people that New York is doing fine after the hurricane than anything having to do with other cities hit by Irene.
Bobbie Dooley recounts how she got into a fight with a woman at a viewing party she was having for the VMA awards. “She started it. I finished it.”

A new twist today in the phone hacking scandal that led to the closure of one of Rupert Murdoch’s British tabloids. Glenn Mulcaire, a private detective who was jailed in 2007 for illegally intercepting voice mails on behalf of a News Corp journalist, has given lawyers the names of the people he says ordered him to carry out the hacks. The request for names came from legal representatives of Steve Coogan, the British actor who believes his voicemail was hacked.
Until recently, Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation had maintained that the phone hacking was the work of a single rogue reporter. There’s no word yet on how many names Mulcaire listed, but they may be released next week if his lawyer can’t block their publication.
Meanwhile, representatives of the Labour Party are seeking an emergency change in UK law to block News Corporation from renewing its bid to take full ownership of BSkyB, Britain’s largest satellite broadcasting company. The proposed law would require a “public interest test” that would allow government ministers to examine media barons and potentially prevent them from large-scale acquisitions “based on their conduct.”
Music’s most outrageous fashionistas were dressed to impress shock at the MTV VMAs last night.
Lady Gaga finally took her alter ego, Jo Calderone, public for the first time. The Born This Way singer got the crowd going crazy when she appeared onstage in a short wig, a black jacket and pants and white tee, reinventing herself yet again at an awards show.
While Gaga channeled a dude, another artist seemed to be channeling her…
Rapper Nicki Minaj looked like a walking toy store, accessorizing her crazy metal tutu dress with stuffed animals, an ice-cream cone necklace and a mask, among other things. Gaga did it better with the Hello Kitty dolls, remember? But still, it was awesome to see the diva bring back the bright colors after a slew of relatively blah red carpet appearances.
Despite a broken foot suffered three months ago when she fell off a stage, British singer Jessie J tried her best to get crazy in a bejeweled black onesie with sparkly white tights and two matching striped canes. She gets an E for effort, but our socks are still on.
And finally, Katy Perry‘s nuttiest outfit of the night—she swapped clothes three times—was this colorful getup with a giant yellow box on her head, courtesy of Christian Dior. Hmmm, somebody feeling a little royal fascinator envy?
So which singer’s VMAs getup was the craziest? Weigh in!
