Episode #181: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Phil’s traveling to Chicago for the 26th Annual Morning Show Boot Camp today, so we’ve cut a “Best Of” podcast for your enjoyment! Backstage Pass members will still have a new show this Saturday. General Gaylen Shaw opened the program with a plug for “boner pills”. Then Chris Norton joined the show to talk about a new restaurant he’s opening, based on Tex-Mex cuisine. Only he calls it Mex-Tex or “Mess-Tess.” The restaurant will feature Wi-Fi, enabling patrons to “sext” each other (send sexual texts). Hence the name Sext-Tex. Or as Chris calls it “Sexx-Tess.” Whatever. The show’s panel had Cliff King, horse trainer, back on to recap the Triple Crown and it turned into a cluster fuck as Cliff exhibited signs of serious dementia on the one hand and indications he was just goofing everyone with his “I’ll break a metal pole over my head and I’m 77 years old” act. Jay Santos of the Citizens Auxiliary Police talked about water safety this summer, especially in the ocean. The oceans power, says Jay, can “humiliate, exploit and manipulate a person. It can almost drown you and then toss you onto the shore like you’re nothing, with your pants pulled down and your butt in the breeze.” And the podcast wrapped up with Dr. Ed Elcott’s first guest hosting appearance. Listen to the creation of Elcott: The Next Step, as the good Dr. discusses things such as the “four essential miracles”.

Episode #180: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Today Phil kicked Margaret out of the studio till she gargled and got her voice ready to do the show. He said her pipes have been scratchy and harsh over the last few days. Ted Bell came on to discuss his wife’s relatives tearing it up at his restaurant and getting ready to spend next week at his house on “Poipu Point in Poipu on Poopoo Street.” Dr. Jim Sadler joined the show to once again discuss Ebola but got into another hassle about respect with the crew… Larry Grover came on to talk about the nation’s border security, but was so engrossed in listening to his favorite song “Return of the Mack” that Phil hung up on him.

Episode #179: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Phil got read the riot act by the crew and David G. Hall so he doesn’t go into the panel discussion he has Friday ready to rip people’s asses. Hall gave Phil a list of heavy-hitters in radio that he doesn’t want insulted, including Guy Gabidnik at Grab Bag Entertainment and Grey Gabnag at Gabnag Communications. Obviously this didn’t go well… The rest of the crew warned Phil not to screw things up for other people at the conference and to “act like a man and not dare say one bad thing about the business….” Friday Phil will be in Chicago joining WGN personality Turi Ryder on a panel at Don Anthony’s Morning Show Boot Camp.

Episode #178: The New Phil Hendrie Show

The new online YouTube fad of “Fire Challenge” is discussed with Coach Vernon Dozier saying the only real way to prove yourself is to stand there and burn while reading the Gettysburg Address. Not light yourself on fire and then run and jump into a pool… The Ebola outbreak and the ways it can be transmitted was addressed by Dr. Jim Sadler. He was reluctant to at first though unless he was given his due as a doctor and therefore a member of the only profession that could help the human race with the disease. So he wanted some expressions of gratitude from the crew before he would answer questions…

Episode #177: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Today’s podcast had Jeff Dowdder attempting to explain the origins of American music while watching a freeway chase on TV and directing Toby Beau on what kind of bacon he wants for breakfast… Father James McQuarters talked about pre-destination and whether Phil’s comfort level on stage means he was “destined” to be there rather than radio. The discussion then got around to the topic of “pa-GAN” worship…

Episode #174: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Phil brought on both Dr. Ron Tarner and Professor Emory Clayton to talk about the ruptured water main in West LA that shut down parts of UCLA. However, the segment sidetracked into Dr. Tarner’s problems with Stephen Hawking and the fact Tarner can barely lift 30 pounds on the leg machine at his gym. Meanwhile, Professor Clayton had a hard time remembering his own name as he talked with Phil about some bullshit, we forget what. Obviously tonight’s one man show was discussed, and Phil congratulated Allen Grooms as the new VIP winner… Tonight at the Improv we’ll also announce the date and place for show number three! If you aren’t there, be listening Friday.

Episode #173: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Tomorrow night’s show at the Hollywood Improv was discussed. Steven Bosell of Corona, CA talked about the incident at the beach that saw a wad of mayo hit his chin and his wife’s rude response. He’ll talk about it tomorrow night… Ted Bell also checked in from Ted’s of Beverly Hills and talked about his further adventures explaining “We want to put our meat in your mouth.” General Shaw talked about seeing a band called “The Jokers” up in Fort Bragg, CA, getting so drunk he threw a beer bottle at the stage and then wandered down the street to watch “Jicky and Bob’s Love Dance.”
