From Boston.com: Kobe scores 33, Lakers beat Wade’s Heat 93-83

Kobe Bryant scored 33 points in his third straight stellar performance since Dwyane Wade broke his nose in the All-Star game, and Wade managed just 16 points before fouling out midway through the fourth quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers’ 93-83 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday.
Metta World Peace scored 17 points while leading a solid defensive effort for the Lakers, who have won 17 of their last 18 home games. Andrew Bynum had 16 points and 13 rebounds as Los Angeles never trailed in the final 44 minutes against Miami, snapping a four-game skid in Bryant’s head-to-head matchups with Wade’s Heat. From NBC: Deron Williams scores 57 to lifts Nets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Deron Williams’ eyes grew a little wider when he realized the Charlotte Bobcats had opted not to double-team him off pick and rolls.

It’s something he hadn’t seen all season.

“I’m used to getting double-teamed on those,” Williams said. “It’s kind of refreshing not to be.”

Williams took full advantage, scoring a franchise-record 57 points to lift the New Jersey Nets to a 104-101 victory over the Bobcats on Sunday night. That’s the most points scored in the NBA this season and breaks the team record of 52 points shared by Mike Newlin and Ray Williams.

It was the second-most points scored against the Bobcats, one shy of Kobe Bryant’s 58 in 2006. Click for more

From BlabbermouthNet: Legendary Rock Guitarist RONNIE MONTROSE Dead At 64

Legendary American rock guitarist Ronnie Montrose died earlier today (Saturday, March 3) after a five-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 64 years old.

Montrose’s official web site has been updated with the following message:

“A few months ago, we held a surprise party for Ronnie Montrose’s 64th birthday. He gave an impromptu speech, and told us that after a long life, filled with joy and hardship, he didn’t take any of our love for granted.

“He passed today. He’d battled cancer, and staved off old age for long enough. And true to form, he chose his own exit the way he chose his own life. We miss him already, but we’re glad to have shared with him while we could.” Click for more.

Not even 24 hours after predicting on the air that Rush Limbaugh would never apologize for his “slut” comment (because Rush knows why he says what he says, bla bla bla) Guess what?
Limbaugh apologizes to law student for insult

WASHINGTON (AP) — Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh apologized Saturday to a Georgetown University law student he had branded a “slut” and “prostitute” after fellow Republicans as well as Democrats criticized him and several advertisers left his program.

The student, Sandra Fluke, had testified to congressional Democrats in support of their national health care policy that would compel her college to offer health plans that cover her birth control. Click for more

Season of Giants: 1961-62
NBA.com celebrates the 50th anniversary of a legendary season

Scientists who study such things have said the eruption of the Krakatoa volcano on Aug. 27, 1883 was the single loudest explosion in recorded human history.

Of course, none of them were inside the Hershey Sports Arena on March 2, 1962 when Wilt Chamberlain put a match to a powder keg and blew up every boundary, every limit, every farthest corner of anyone’s wildest imagination.

From AP: Obama joins in assailing Limbaugh slur of student

NEW YORK (AP) — Stepping into an emerging culture clash over women, President Barack Obama made a supportive phone call Friday to a law student who testified before Congress about the need for birth control coverage, only to be called a “slut” by Rush Limbaugh.

For Obama, it was an emphatic plunge into the latest flare-up on social issues. Democratic officeholders and liberal advocacy have accused Republicans of waging a “war on women” because of GOP stances on contraception and abortion rights, and Limbaugh’s tirade on his radio talk show was seen as an escalation.
