Episode #218: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Phil is still recovering from his flu shot, so we’ve got another “Best Of” for today’s comedic pleasure. All clips taken from early August 2014. Listen to the full shows with a Backstage Pass to the official Phil Hendrie Show website. The podcast starts with Dean Wheeler, live from the “Eggs, Pork, and You” in Palos Verdes to talk about his alleged killing of Wiff Bailey, the Elcott tracker that attached tracking wires to Emerelda’s v*****. Dean claims that Bailey is alive and well and that Elcott-The Next Step is a big joke concocted by Ed Elcott for his private amusement. Then Bobbie Dooley joins us to discuss the upcoming Summertacular, an annual celebration of all things summer. She also discusses her recent celebrity interview with Dr. Drew; naturally, this upsets Margaret, and the two get into a heated exchange. The new online YouTube fad of “Fire Challenge” is discussed with Coach Vernon Dozier saying the only real way to prove yourself is to stand there and burn while reading the Gettysburg Address. Not light yourself on fire and then run and jump into a pool… The Ebola outbreak and the ways it can be transmitted was addressed by Dr. Jim Sadler. He was reluctant to at first though unless he was given his due as a doctor and therefore a member of the only profession that could help the human race with the disease. So he wanted some expressions of gratitude from the crew before he would answer questions… Closing the show was Father James McQuarters, who talked about pre-destination and whether Phil’s comfort level on stage means he was “destined” to be there rather than radio. The discussion then got around to the topic of “pa-GAN” worship…

Episode #219: The New Phil Hendrie Show

Phil, back from his flu shot episode, drops show biz news during the pre-show. Dean Wheeler unveils a new horn player for his wife’s band and a song Dean wrote for Emerelda. Wait’ll you hear this. Dr. Ron Tarner “dumping” his girlfriend Caroline takes precedence over discussions of Ebola when Don Micksa lets the cat out of the bag on his segment, a segment allegedly about the Hong Kong democracy movement. Micksa feels that that movement is threatened by the tendency of the protesters to be slobs, leaving garbage in the streets. Phil also talked about how his symptoms came on after the shot and what he did about it. Bud wanted it made clear that Phil doesn’t have Ebola…

Episode #221: The New Phil Hendrie Show

It looks like Southern California Edison didn’t want us to do a live show today, as we’ve lost power to our studio for “infrastructure maintenance”. We’ve cut together a “Best Of” podcast to tide you over until the BSP-Only show tomorrow.

Larry Grover was also on to talk with the panel about Ferguson but got sidetracked by seeing a priest on TV that “looked like Stephen Colbert.” Then Brad Riffkin joins the show to discuss the San Francisco ’49ers stadium issues. Frank Grey came on the show from his son The Delmonico’s hockey practice and proceeded to get that confused with a David Hockney exhibit Margaret dragged him to… Jay Santos discussed how he deals with shoplifting “punks,” his “judo throw,” and how he asks for consent before he goes down a kids “pant to feel around for stolen pork chops or what have you.” Bud and the crew briefly discuss spontaneous combustion. They also had on Dr. Sadler who got very upset when he found out that he, a doctor and eminent man, was taking meds, but Dickman wasn’t… Professor Emory Clayton wraps up the podcast by discussing the situation in Ferguson.

The story of William Bradford Bishop, a US government employee who killed his entire family in the 70’s and then disappeared was discussed by Phil and the crew. The John List case also came up and the whole thing weirded Bud out. Dr. Jim Sadler introduced a new term into the Ebola discussion: Bebola…that’s Ebola when its been diagnosed, but isn’t yet in the critical stages. Sadler also very unfortunately mentioned moisturizing his lips to make it easier to speak and that took the conversation the wrong way as well… David G. Hall talked with Phil about his new BSP-Only Saturday show focusing more on Phil and less on the performance end of the show…whatever that means…
