(Source: Entertainment Weekly) The chances that Maverick will fly again are looking more promising than ever, as Top Gun’s producer and star reunited recently to discuss the potential sequel.

Jerry Bruckheimer posted a photo of himself and Tom Cruise, saying he “Just got back from a weekend in New Orleans to see my old friend @TomCruise and discuss a little Top Gun 2.”

Talk of a sequel to the 1986 action blockbuster has gone on for years, with Cruise saying last year that it would be “fun” to jump back into the series, while another Top Gun 2 producer, David Ellison, said a screenplay was in the works from The Jungle Book screenwriter Justin Marks. Bruckheimer has addressed the potential of the film on past occasions as well, mentioning back in 2013 that there was still a plan to continue forward with the project despite the death of the original film’s director, Tony Scott.

Lending further fuel to the fire last year, Val Kilmer posted on his Facebook page that he was offered to reprise his role as Maverick’s flyboy frenemy, Iceman, in the potential sequel, though he later backtracked saying he “jumped the gun.”

Bruckheimer’s latest tweet indicates the potential sequel may finally be fueling up and preparing for takeoff.
