Classic Hour
Friday, June 1, 2018
Our last Phil Classic for awhile, Phil introduces a relatively recent Phil Classic. From March 2018, Kenny Slag tried to power through his Principles of Abundance in the 21st Century after recent arrests for lewd and indecent public behavior.
The BSP Classic Show, all three hours, is from September 2003. Featuring Doug Dannger with a new book “Boy Did You Look Stupid”, criticizing Americans for being too weepy over 9/11.

Phil is hardly the first successful comedian to laugh at his own material…Remember Red Skelton? Milton Berle? Seems a bit nit-picky and, well, just cranky……
Parkman
Hillarious Kenny SLag
whatever
While reading Pete’s post I probably tainted the rhythm by injecting laughter, chortling and the occasional snicker.
Haha. Well played Jason!
You mad, bro??
For Christ’s sake. Phil, please, enough with laughing at yourself. It’s fucking sad. I have been listening since 2003 and have been a BSP since 2014. I love your show and you brilliance but the contrived and forced laughter and chortling. you’re providing yourself is distracting and pathetic. You’re pushing for BSP members for gods sake. If I were considering getting a BSP and thought you were doing this throughout your archive, I would never join. Hey guys- I hear Richard Pryor is re-releasing his comedy albums (yeah, yeah, I know he’s dead but doing this for illustrative purposes) but on his new releases he’s recorded himself laughing and snickering at himself and his old material. It’s great! Please, for the love of Christ, stop this shit.
And yes, I’m waiting for the syncophants to respond to this with- “Hey, if you don’t like it, stop your subscription”, or “Fuck you, Phil can do whatever he wants and you can stop listening if you don’t like it”. I’m getting to the point that I just may. Phil, you’ve been a great part of my life in that you’ve provided tons of laughs and I still, daily, search for more of your brilliance in you archives, and I’m rarely disappointed. But the laughing at yourself is really, really sad for many, many reasons.
Funny is funny. I don’t blame him for laughing. I find it refreshing that he laughs at the same things I do. Being a listener for so long, you should have noticed that nobody is more critical of his work than he is. It’s comedy, lighten up.
Sometimes I listen to old shows and I think, “Wow he really tortured that caller!” But if he can laugh at these moments now, I know he slept at night.
I’d love it if Phil dissected a classic show. Maybe it would take 3 hours to listen to a 38 minute hour but..
It’s usually not cool for comedians to laugh at their own jokes – or anyone, really. But I think it’s hilarious when Phil does in this context. I’m good with it. Makes me laugh more sometimes. It’s not stand-up or other traditional means.
I agree with you. Also, I don’t think it’s real. It sounds like a one man laugh track. I don’t need a laugh track to punch up Phil’s jokes because he’s already funny as hell.
