Ep. 163

Monday, November 25, 2013

Dr. Jim Sadler talked with Phil about the longevity of certain people and why they live so long. Dr. Sadler's mother lived to be 98 because, in his words, she was "a dirty, rotten, selfish, two bit......" (He trailed off) He also mentioned to Phil the topic of sleep and Phil's ongoing insomnia. The doc said sleep is "overrated" and that he heard of a guy who stayed awake for 7 days and he was just fine. A boiler the guy maintained blew up and destroyed a whole quarter of an amusement park he worked for but "no one died or was injured." General Shaw and the rest of the panel jumped all over Bud for his annual Bird Day tradition of "smoking a bag of weed and watching the 'Wizard of Oz' while listening to "Dark Side of the Moon.'

Ep. 162

Friday, November 22, 2013

Vernon Dozier, Don Berman and Dean Wheeler shared their memories of that fateful day in Dallas, TX some 50 years ago. Margaret Grey and General Gaylon Shaw took exception to some of those memories. For instance Don Berman remembered being called into work even though he had just had his tonsils out and was resting comfortably back at his parents, eating ice cream and reading "Little Lulu and Nancy" comics. He told his editor that he "wasn't getting aid enough to go get reaction to Kennedy's death from little old ladies gumming sandwiches at the Green Hotel and backwashing into their tea." And Vernon Dozier said he was upset but more upset that the Bears didn't cover that weekend thus losing him $30, and Monday was declared a national day of mourning so he'd be out his pay as a bus boy at some place called "The Abstract Chicken."

Bobby Brown throwing a brick through his mothers car window was the subject of a Bud and Margaret argument with Margaret playing up the Oedipal angle..... Justin MacElroy returned with more on his school video project: a reality show where they follow an old guy around until he dies. The old guy they were following around was Lloyd. Clara Bingham, from Joyful Union Middle School, talked about making sure the kids are bringing nutritious lunches to school....and if their faces are too small for their heads (hence they are too fat) they have to share some of their food with the faculty. Clara got a hold of some cherry crumb cake and was going to give it to one of the janitors but flipped a coin in her office and she won.
