Phil and the gang talk about war documentaries on this Memorial Day with Justin McElroy and Steve Bosell. Bosell wonders why there isn’t any “footage” of the Civil War and the Franco-Prussian War and Justin talks about producing a “re-enactment” of World War 1 using the students of LA Canyon High School including “Billy Bobson who plays Archduke ‘Ferdninand’ because he’s fat and owns a fake mustache.”
Episode 128 from The World of Phil Hendrie podcast.

y’all don’t pick on Phil, ya hear?
Damn Phil, it was really sad to hear Lloyd Bonafide sounding so old and feeble. I fondly remember Lloyd as a feisty, ornery guy with all kinds of shit going on. Now he makes an appearance after not being heard from in a LONG time and he’s a mere shadow of his former self. Very sad. Oh for the days of Lloyd driving to someone’s house to kick their ass!
What’s the point of posting a negative insulting post. If I didn’t like the show I simply would turn it off.
I’m not saying I have a problem with Phil putting ads in the show, I have a problem with the way he treats his customers.
I first knew he was considering putting ads in the show when he mentioned how he doesn’t advertise because it’s a subscription site and it seems greedy. My problem is that instead of telling listeners he’s considering selling ad time, he explains how above the fray he is.
Why not just be up front about it? Don’t act like you’re above selling ad time to subscribers when you’re not. at all.
I’ve heard Phil talk about Amazon or Sherris Berries or Square Space and it was a fuck ton more interesting than Michael Ian Black talking about stamps dot com.
Who cares what these other two clowns have to say? There are already some ads in the old material! If this Roger Bishop guy is so into the old shows, he’d have heard these ads – some of which include Janice Ungaro, etc.
And by the way, if you were listening to Phil on terrestrial radio, guess what? You’d be listening to several minutes of ads each hour. Now you’re bitching about ANY ads?
If commercial ads become a part of the show that is it for me. I will certainly end my subscription; which I am not too far away form now just given Phil’s poor show quality. I log on for the oldies 90% of the time.
I think it’s kind of messed up that you’ve acted like you’re above subjecting your BSP subscribers to commercial ads since you left terrestrial radio, when it’s pretty obvious that you’re considering doing just that.
It’s your show and you can do what you want, but give your audience credit and just come out and say that you are considering putting commercial advertisements in the show.
