LOS ANGELES, December 6, 2010 – Jay Leno spontaneously called Phil Hendrie during his KFI-AM 640 radio show in Los Angeles that airs from 7-10 p.m. on Saturdays.  No, it wasn’t Hendrie playing Leno, it was in fact Leno himself.  He told Hendrie he’s a big fan of the show and particularly likes Ted Bell, owner of Ted’s of Beverly Hills Steak House.    Playing along, Leno said “I went by his place (Ted’s) and everything you said about him was correct.”    Hendrie said, “I hope he hasn’t had occasion to rough you up and throw you out of the Prime Rib Room as he did with Brad Pitt one night.”   “No, no, no, but he’s one of those testy guys, that everything is so touchy, you try to make a constructive criticism, but the guy goes crazy.”   Leno then joined the discussion with Hendrie and the guest character about slowing down the trains – a heated local issue in Los Angeles.    About The Phil Hendrie Show Hendrie’s nationally syndicated radio show, heard on about 100 stations, and his local Saturday evening show on Los Angeles’ KFI AM 640 are driven by his cast of fictional characters, all of whom he created and plays on air.  As host, Hendrie sets up a topic and discusses it with one of his characters who seamlessly takes the discussion beyond obvious social parameters.  Feeding the circle of social satire are the callers who are real and genuinely passionate about what Hendrie’s “guest” is saying.  Loyal fans enjoy being in on the ruse as Hendrie orchestrates a parody of his own profession – talk radio.

Doom Hurdle at Cratered Park Bob Green discussed Donald Sterling while his store is featuring a post-Easter Sale called "The Crucifiction Continues." Bob claims it has nothing to do with Sterlings on-going problems. It's about selling left-over Easter candy even though Phil and the panel point out that Easter was about resurrection, not crucifiction. Ted Bell, owner of Ted's of Beverly Hills steakhouse, told the audience about being at the Beverly Hills Hotel to protest the government of Brunei's ownership. Ted said Jay Leno led the assembled people in a protest cheer; "1-2-3 Brunei can shove it up their ass!" Jeff Dowdder was at Cratered Park in either Nebraska or Texas riding the roller coaster Doom Hurdle. He sounded like he was going to die but afterward said it was just "okay." Show Log

Ted Bell came on the show to talk about his aggressive business stance even in the face of an Obama reelection. In fact, Ted said that any businessman who is cutting back his business hiring or spending because Obama won "isn't worth the sweat off (his) blank-blank." (Later off air, Ted admitted the words he would not use were 'nut sack.')  Mavis Leonard called the show to talk about her disappointment Romney didn't win saying her late husband owned 3 successful BP stations and Obama "burned BP out and ran them off...."             Bob Green's friend Roberta Robert Green from Frazier Foods chastized General David Petraeus for not understanding a woman will offer sex and love but what she wants is information. Its like the checker from Bob's Buena Park store that he dated briefly. She always wanted to know how she could improve her checker skills on the new machines. But Bob was suspicious. One night, at a drive-in movie theater, as he leaned back in the seat trying to recreate a sexy mood from youth, Bob found out the hard way what holding back info from a girl with braces really means.....

Ep. 202

It's post 9/11 as Phil brings on Ted Bell from Ted's of Beverly Hills. He wants talk radio listeners to show a pair of balls and get on an airplane! December, 2001. (Some of you may be wondering, "where did Episode 192 go?" Well, it was lost in a tragic fire. Just kidding, we accidentally skipped it.)

Ep. 875

Ted Bell announces a new ad campaign: Ted’s 6 Things! He and Chef Chodillia roll it out but the ghost of ad campaigns past comes calling.

Ep. 2870

Ted Bell makes it “Ted’s of Beverly Hell” for Halloween.
The first hour featured Dean Wheeler coming on the show to talk about MLK's super powers. He claimed that MLK had God's ear, and that the Northridge earthquake happened because MLK is pissed that no one honors him. The second hour started with a rant about beautiful women and football. Vernon Dozier stopped by to wrap up the end of the second hour with some commentary on Rae Carrath. He said that he doesn't condone murder, but Rae Carrath's former girlfriend shouldn't have bothered him for child support... Ted Bell joined us in the last hour with his comments on people's weight, namely, those people who make a return trip to the salad bar. Ted also revealed that he follows people home who don't tip well, and makes crank calls to those who cancel their reservations.
LaPrete for News Patricia Kirtley raised her and Ted Williams' four daughters, as well as one of the children he had with a druggie girlfriend. An old photo of Ted Williams. A viral video vaulted Ted Williams and his golden voice to fame, but the real hero of this story is the woman he left behind. Patricia Kirtley raised four daughters alone after Williams split 23 years ago and dove down the rabbit hole of drugs. Not only that, Kirtley took in the baby boy the radioman had with another woman and raised him as her own. Oh, and by the way, she's partially blind. "We survived," Kirtley said Thursday in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. "My children are survivors. They know if we get a little bit that God provides, we make it into a lot. I'm a soup maker. I make potato soup and throw in a lot of vegetables and a little meat. We always ate." Except that Williams, who seems to be a nice guy, just wasn't strong, wasn't around and wasn't contributing financially. Kirtley had to go on the dole. "I still remember my case number," she says ruefully. She eventually went to school and got licensed as a blind vendor. "My mother and sisters pitched in and drove me because I can't see to drive," said Kirtley, now 58, over a din of some of her 16 grandchildren playing. As if that weren't enough, Kirtley said two of her sisters and a cousin each took in a child Williams and his druggie girlfriend couldn't, or wouldn't, care for. "I didn't want to see those children in no foster home," she said. Exactly. It's an all-too-familiar story to the strong members of poor communities - usually women. They are the ones who must provide the backbone, as well as the hugs, for children whose parents get hooked on drugs. Williams called once in a while, and Kirtley would hear that baritone voice she fell in love with at first sound. They stayed friendly, and he might come for Thanksgiving dinner, but otherwise, he would remain AWOL. Daughter Julia Pullien, 30, said she was 7 when Williams left. "He wasn't involved," she said. "Our mom was our sole provider. She is a more than phenomenal person. My father is a nice guy, but he fell victim to the streets. We prayed for him and we worried about him, but we became accustomed to the fact that he just wasn't there." Kirtley said the kids felt some resentment. "They didn't understand why he was never there for their school functions, or just to help with their homework," she said. "That's when I really could have used help, because I couldn't see their pages. My kids are really good readers, though, because I made them read everything to me out loud." They're grown now, with jobs and kids of their own. Maybe Williams can redeem himself personally as well as professionally. Maybe he can be there for his grandchildren in ways he could not for his kids. Still, all the credit must go to Kirtley, the woman who truly deserves the fame her ex has been getting the past few days. From The New York Daily News
